photoHISTORIC COMMUNITY ORGANIZING VICTORY
New Jersey Regional Coalition helps legislators pass landmark fair housing reform

The New Jersey Regional Coalition brought together a diverse crowd of more than 500 members of religious congregations, civic organizations and unions from around the state to join with prominent political leaders on July 17 to witness Gov. Jon Corzine’s signing of housing bill A500. The signing ceremony for the bill that abolishes Regional Contribution Agreements took place at the Ethel R. Lawrence Homes, an affordable housing complex named in honor of Mount Laurel’s civil and housing rights pioneer Ethel R. Lawrence. RCAs allowed wealthy municipalities to pay poor municipalities to accept their affordable housing obligation.

The New Jersey Regional Coalition is a faith-based community organizing group, founded by Marty Johnson, the founder of Isles, and others in 2003.

Congratulations! Isles was selected by NJBiz Magazine as the state's Health Care Hero for health-care education. NJBiz cited Isles' Environment and Community Health Department for its community-based research, education and action to improve the health and physical environment of Trenton residents.

Isles will be featured in a special section for Health Care Heroes in the next issue of NJBiz.
